Tonight!

Tonight is the Reading is Sexy Kindle Party at The Soundry!  Join me at: http://www.ustream.tv/channel/kindle-party live online to hear me read the first chapter of Feeding the Moon – the sequel to Blood for the Living! The party starts at 7:00pm, with introductions beginning about 7:30pm. There will be a panel discussion about indie publishing afterward.

I haven’t decided yet if I’m staying for the panel discussion. It’s pretty late & I need to be up early to get my eldest off to school.

Tonight is also your last chance to download the first chapter of Feeding the Moon! I’ll be taking it down tomorrow, and it won’t be available again until the entire book is published. Considering I have to sell at least 1000 copies of  Blood for the Living before my publisher will look at a sequel, it may be quite some time before Feeding the Moon is out!

First Chapter is Done!

Well, I finished the first chapter of the sequel to “Blood for the Living” – then I gave it a title.

Feeding the Moon, Chapter 1 is now up for download on Kindle!

The downside: I didn’t realize that the minimum I could set the price was 99 cents. The first chapter is only 3 pages. It’s just supposed to be a teaser, a quick beginning to a new, fast-paced book. 3 pages doesn’t seem worth 99 cents to me. Not sure what I’m going to do about that. I don’t have time this weekend to pound out a Ch. 2.

The upside: The first chapter went really well! I can’t wait to write the rest of the book! I have so many ideas for it.

<– Put together the temporary cover using the original background art by Theresa Zbiciak & a moon photo & lights by Katherine Gray. The photo of the couple is a heavily cut-out photo that I’d also used for the original temporary cover of “Blood for the Living.”

I plan on reading the 1st chapter at the Soundry’s Reading is Sexy Kindle party on Sept. 8th. The idea is that people can read along on their Kindles. But 99 cents still seems steep.

In other news, I finally received the header for my display case. Unfortunately, they didn’t quite change it the way they said they would. They did add the line that it’s available for ebook, but instead of replacing the text, they put it in small print next to it. *sigh* At least they added the QR as promised!

Upcoming Adventures

I haven’t posted in a while, been super busy! Had inlaws visit, visited inlaws, had relatives visit, visited inlaws again, etc. August is a travel month for me.

My next book signing is August 27th at the Porter Library! I’ll be there, along with a bunch of other local VA authors, from 2-3:30. If you’re local, please come out & support the library!

On Sept 8th, I’ll be joining other authors at the Soundry for a Kindle party! If all goes according to my current plan, I’ll have the first chapter of my sequel done, edited, and up for sale on Amazon Kindle by the end of next week. Then you can download the chapter for the low price of fifty cents and read along with me at the Kindle party. At least, that’s the plan. Will I have time to get this all done? ?

In other news, I’m now actively looking for a marketing partner. My publisher takes a very hands-off stance until at least 500 books sell, and won’t publish a second book until at least 1000 sell. If I’m going to make these milestones in any reasonable amount of time, it’s going to be because I’ve gotten an enormous amount of help. If you know anyone with mad marketing skills & a strong desire to work for a share of future profits, please send them my way!

First Chapter Spoiler

I’ve set a goal for myself.

I have a reading/Kindle party coming up on Sept. 8th at the Soundry. I’ve decided that instead of picking a different passage to read than I did on Jellyvision, I’m going to read the first chapter of the sequel. This means I have to have it done, edited, and be reasonably sure that it’s really the way I want it by September. With almost 2 months to do it, I’m not too worried it will get done.

I need to do a lot more self-promotion. This really doesn’t come naturally to me. I feel downright silly calling places on my own behalf. But I need to start booking conventions soon.

Sequel Started!

A couple days ago I began working on the sequel to Blood for the Living. I managed to get the first page of the first chapter done in the little time I had. But it was enough to get me excited about it! I’ve decided to pick up right where I left off the first book, starting the very next day.

Meanwhile, my laptop battery is refusing to take a charge, so I won’t be able to take it to McD’s to write. *sigh* Really need to find some time at home to sit down and write the chapters I’ve already run through my mind.

In other news, Dennis Sharpe & I are having technical difficulties with our competition. My publisher doesn’t put out sales data quickly enough, and they’re always more than a month behind. I won’t know my sales figures for up to the end of June until August 11.

I am in desperate need of an intern! There’s so much I want to get done for book promotion during the day & i just can’t get to it.

My 1st Book Signing!

Had my very 1st book signing yesterday at Prospero’s! I only sold 4 books, but what a learning experience!

I got a lot of practice talking about & pitching the book. Unfortunately, it was after the guy from 88.5 stuck a microphone with a tape recorder in my face. Asking the vampire novelist about the upcoming civil war festivities in town was probably not the best idea for a good sound byte, but there was nothing else going on that early in the afternoon.

Sadly, I can’t think that fast on my feet. Even when I’m sitting down. =)  Pretty sure that my unrehearsed babble is not going to make it on the air (I didn’t even remember to mention the NAME of my book! *sigh*), but it reinforced the need for a pre-prepared talking points.

Hubby stayed with me the whole time, so during the many lulls he asked me lots of questions. Hopefully the next time I get interviewed with no notice I won’t sound like a complete idiot! Although to be fair to myself, it could have been much worse. At least I remembered to mention my website this time.

I now have a much better idea of what to do & to expect for future signings. Going to try & get to a lot of conventions this year, I think I’d be a lot more successful in that sort of venue.
